Copperplate Gothic Light is a font I used throughout my web site. If you are using an OEM version of WindowsXP, then you probably don't have it but you can download it HERE, and place it into your C:\Windows\Fonts directory. You MUST right click and Save Target As... or else you'll get a bunch of garbled text.

JOSHUA DIETRICH COIC

I was born February 27th, 1974. I was actually born in an elevator, but at least it was the elevator in the hospital. I am the youngest of eight children, or twelve if you count step-siblings. 9 sisters and two brothers. I graduated high school in '92 and joined the Army later the same year. I just went over 12 years, and definitely plan on retiring at 20. I was born and raised in a small town called Elma, Washington, about a half hour west of Olympia.

ANGEL MARIE COIC

This is Angel, my wife. People often talk about "if things were meant to be, then..." Well, Angel and I only knew each other for about five weeks before we got married. Less than 24 hours after we were wed, I was on a plane to Germany where it would be five long months before we would be together again. That was rough. Well, it was definitely meant to be, we just went over seven years this September, and we are both very happy.

HISTORY / ABOUT

Of course, it's been a while since I did any work to the ol' web page. Nothing of real importance, unless you happen to like looking at more pictures of my meager attempts at making improvements on the Trans Am. Took some pictures finally, and thought I'd share 'em. That's all... - 18 FEB 05

Well, once again, more updates, again, already. Nothing major, appearance wise, but I finally got a hit counter going. I just searched google, and found one. I think it is more for business, or corporate web pages, but it comes with all this cool statistical info, like what Ben has on his page. I have no Idea how Ben did his, nor could I decipher anything usefull from looking at the code for his either. Nonetheless, I have a hitcounter, two visible ones (although the vertical alignment is off), and invisible ones on every page. This is what logs the statistical information, like what page you went to mine from, what pages you visited and in what order, how long you viewed them, what OS, browser, and screen resolution you are using. Mostly useless, but I find it interesting. I made the stats open for public viewing... just click on the little bar-graph icon below the links to friends' pages. That's it, for now, I'm sure I'll find more trivial stuff to change. - 18 OCT 04

I've already made some changes, or improvements (as I'd like to call 'em) to this site since I finally got it posted Saturday nite.  Perusing my friend Jonathan's site, I just now noticed his link and tips on how to download / nstall the Copperplate Gothic Light True Type Font for us Windows XP users.  I too am a fan of this font, and have used it in varying places throughout my site, so...Thanks Jonathan!  I did put some frames to use on the additional page for my Trans Am, depicting some of the Projects / Upgrades / Modifications I've done, or am still doing.  Hopefully lots more to come here, meaning, I'm hoping I can really start to get some stuff done on / to it.

I also borrowed this cool (at least I think so) current date javascript thing from David Fishman's "Nerdyjock" page.  I thought it was a nice touch. My wife gave me some input on a couple pictures of our kids she'd rather see than some I had links to, easy fix, and I agree with her on the choices.  But, I still don't have a working hit counter, Looks like a trouble call to Ben is in order... - 17 OCT 04

Well, so now it has been a really, really long time. Over two years. I finally got a digital camera (Fuji Film FinePix S5000), so adding new pics is a bit easier. My web page died when I unsubscribed to AOL and they were hosting it. Not sure exactly what inspired me to get it back on the web either...Guess I just decided there wasn't really anything keeping me from doing it, so....

I removed the link that used to be at the top that took you to my alternate frames page. It isn't done, probably never will be, so, I've decided not to bother with it anymore. Not too many changes in store, just more pictures pretty much, but this is a convenient way for some friends and family to see recent pictures of my kids and such. Enjoy - 13 OCT 04

OK, so it's been a really long time since I updated my web page. I've been working on this whole frames thing still, and now there is even a link to it. I like the frames site except in order for me to create the "illusions" that I wanted, I had to use the same background throughout the whole page. I'm kinda proud of my custom psuedo watermark back grounds and was a little disappointed that I had to ditch it. Well, I'll try and figure out how to us a more custom background that doesn't spoil my "illusions."

My counter is finally working proper like. I also re-arranged my history/about section in reverse chronological order (just like Jonathan's) so there is no longer a need to scroll all the way to the bottom just to see any new changes, and I added a new link to David Fishman's (Air Force 2ND LT I met that showed me the frames thing) page. - 1 AUG 02

Well, I actually got it finished, except for my Hit Counter. I guess I need to contact AOL and see what I need to do, since from what I've gleaned from talking to other people, a counter is "powered" by whoever is hosting your web page. Other than that, I've learned how to make pages fade in/out when you enter/exit them (although I didn't use the fade out option), and how to make hyperlink text change color when you hover your mouse over it.

I met an Air Force 2nd LT who showed me the magic of frames. You can create some pretty cool illusions using frames. I'm working on an "alternate" site using frames which I'll probably have a link to as an optional site. Same content, just different mechanics. - 27 JUN 02

I think I've got about half of the pics uploaded. I finally figured out why two of my links weren't working...You were supposed to be able to click on any picture of me, my wife, and the kids and it'll take you to the respective page. I had used two uppercase letters in the URLs associated with mine and my wife's picture/hyperlink instead of traditional lowercase letters. The links worked fine on my computer, but wouldn't work once it was uploaded. Guess I've learned my lesson.

Out of about 5 times of connecting to AOL here in Mississipi, I get maybe an hour of upload time. I think it is just dirty/bad phone lines between here and the AOL ISP in Gulfport, or the ISP is just plain unreliable. I should still have it done before I leave next Friday though. - 20 JUN 02

Well, I would say I'm nearly done, but when are you really ever "done" with a personal web page? The last pages that really need any work are my Friends and Family page and some Army Pics on my personal page. I'm on Keesler AFB right now attending a soldering school, and plan on uploading the rest of my web page. Talk about a pain in the butt! AOL did not make it easy for you upload an existing web page that was not built using their proprietary web building software. So far I've uploaded all the .html files, and the associated background images, but it is a painstakingly slow process. Hopefully I can still finish it before I go home on vacation. - 16 JUN 02

Well, I've now scanned most of my boat-load of pictures, and now it has been resize/rename pics for the last two days. My friend Jonathan, pointed out the one simple thing in IRFANVIEW that I was overlooking, so now I've retired trusty ol' MSpaint and am using IRFANVIEW explicitly. Has anyone ever heard of MASSANUTTEN RESORTS? It is a Multi-Billion dollar 6,000+ acre Ski/Golf resort that is in "God's Cradle" in the Shenandoah Valley. Well, we now own a Time Share Condo there. It's a long story, but we think it's pretty damn cool. - 9 JUN 02

I guess I've been working on this thing for about a week now. Aside from scanning a boat-load of pictures, I think it's nearly ready. I've yet to decide exactly where I'll have it hosted, probably check into AOL first since I think I get like 10 MB of free web space with my membership.

I've totally enjoyed building this, it has even been rather fullfilling/gratifying. Just playing with the different switches and seeing what effect they have. Basically, the sense of accomplishment by figuring out how to get your stuff working the way you want it to. Now, I find myself surfing the web just to look for ideas to implement into my own web page. I do owe my friend Jonathan (crawdaddy79) many thanks. I greatly admire his site and have used it almost explicitly for the many necessary examples I needed to just get started, let alone actually do something moderately cool. So, the moral of the story is, THANKS JONATHAN!

All (well damn near anyway) of the images were scanned using IRFANVIEW32 which is a very robust (bad-ass) utility. Even though irfanview has more features than I know what to do with (actually it's more like how to do what with what), I've still been using MSpaint to create the thumbnails, and I used it to create the psuedo-watermark backgrounds as well. - 8 JUN 02

If anyone wishes that a picture of them be removed, or feels that a caption is inappropriate, please feel free to e-mail me at jcoic@hotmail.com and I'll fix it as soon as I can. Thanks - Josh
